Would you like to get your information in front of as many eyes as possible in as many consumable forms as possible? Then article marketing is for you.

You need to think of how your article can be repurposed into a variety of consumable forms.

Your article as text

Write your article and then submit it to the article directories. First go deep on EzineArticles. Second go wide by submitting your articles to other popular article directories. Third submit your article to niche article directories. And finally submit your articles to your own article directories.

Your article as audio

Then you can repurpose your article content into audio. One way is to simply read and talk about your article, record it and create CDs. My favorite way though to repurpose my article content into audio content is with teleseminars. Conduct a teleseminar and record it and then you can turn that recording into audio CDs, podcasts, mp3, etc.

Then building out the other side you can have that recording transcribed and then repurpose the transcription into more text articles. In this way, as my colleague and friend Alex Mandossian says, you can "write with your mouth and not with your hands."

Your article as video

When you take your article content and repurpose it into video and then put that video on You Tube, you now have links coming back to your web site from the second highest ranked web site in the world. All you have to do is video yourself taking about your article, make and explain a few points, and there is your video.

5 Proven Strategies for Filling Your Marketing Funnel Part 1

This is the first of a two-part article on overfilling your marketing funnel and client pipeline.

In order to insure that your pipeline doesn't dry up as existing clients take vacations or move on, you want to overfill your marketing funnel in order to create a waiting list of people who want to work with you.

Before we discuss which strategies should have a prominent place in your marketing action plan, you'll want to have a few items in your marketing toolkit:

1. Write out your USP.

Your Unique Selling Proposition tells prospects what makes you different. Why should they hire you as opposed to Joe? What can you bring to the relationship that is different than what Mary brings? YOU need to know what your USP is in order to successfully market your business -- it's a cornerstone of your brand.

Dominos pizza guarantees delivery in 30 minutes or it's free. McDonald's food is fast (you don't go there for "good". . .you go for "fast"). What do you do?

2. Write and memorize your elevator speech.

Whether you work from home or in an office, you want to have an effective elevator speech ready. Remember that you only have a few seconds to capture my attention, what do you need me to know? What results do you provide your clients? Chances are, it's not your company name and title!

3. Create an attractive website.

Your website needs to be "attractive" -- not pretty in the usual sense, but attractive to the prospects that you want to attract. Your home page must touch on a problem that your target audience has and how you can resolve that problem.

I don't care how long you've been in business if you can solve my problem -- whatever my problem may be. Your prospects feel the same.

4. Have attractive business cards.

If you attend networking events of any type, you need to have a business card. See number 3 above -- your business card needs to be attractive to the person you want to hand it to. You should write your USP on the card, list your tagline, or otherwise "speak" to your prospects via your card so when they are flipping through the cards a month after the event, they'll remember you.

Cards have a back side, use it to offer a no-cost report (this is the best option if you have a newsletter) or list a client testimonial. I use Overnight Prints for all my business and postcard needs and love them!

5. Come from a "full practice" mentality.

This last one is perhaps the most important. You want to insure that you do not come across as "lacking" or "needy" to your prospective clients.

But the links need to be crafted a certain way. So you need to get this right. They need to be "text links," otherwise known as "anchor text." We'll cover exactly how to do this in a moment.

These backlinks are simply links back to your site from your "author's resource box," like the one at the end of this article. Your author's resource box is where you get to do some self-promotion. Usually, you're not allowed to promote your product or website in the main body of the article. After all, articles are supposed to be just that--articles; otherwise they'd be called advertisements!

Look at the author resource box at the bottom of this article. There's two important things you need to know about the first blue link in the author's resource box:

1. "article marketing" is a "text link," a.k.a. "anchor text" instead of http://honestysellsbest.com/How_To_Make_Money_Online.html#Article_tutorial (which is the actual link URL). The search engines, especially the biggest one--Google--reward you for text links and not URLs...

The resource box section of some article directories will "parse" the html code into normal, "readable" text, making it look like the resource "box" you see at the end of this article.

(The html code you need to use to make a text link is covered in the Article Marketing Tutorial section of my website--click the text link in the resource "box" at the end of this article. Creating text links is only a matter of a couple clicks when using your html editor, however, you have to "hand code" the html into the author's resource box.)

2. "article marketing" is a researched keyword phrase and is the title of the webpage that it links to.

If you take a little time to research a keyword phrase to use as your link text, you will be rewarded with many more visitors to your website than if you used anchor text that is not a searched-for keyword phrase.

If you read a lot of articles, youve probably noticed a box that includes a number of links at the end of each article. This is called the authors biography, bio, or resource box. The links located in the resource box are the authors payment for writing the article.

Different authors put different types of information in their resource boxes, depending on their goals. Some writers add their biographical information into this section. These authors are trying to build up their reputation in a particular field.

Many authors write articles to increase traffic to their website. In this case, they will add a link to their websites sign-in (squeeze) page. Others write articles to generate income. These writers add links to their own products or to affiliate products that they are recommending. Some submission sites will allow an author to include up to three links in a resource box, and others will allow just one or two. My third link will point toward another one of my products or an affiliate product that is related to the content of the article. If you can recommend a product that is related to your article, you will usually see a larger number of clicks from that link.

In these cases, the hard work that you put into your resource box will look like a jumbled mess. For that reason, I use plain text in all of my resource boxes.

OK. Let me ask you a really SIMPLE question. Why do you write articles? Is it to:

  • amuse yourself?
  • give you something to do when you are lonely?
  • present yourself as an authority on something?

Well, maybe. But for the vast majority of article writers the ONLY reason is to drive traffic to your website. Correct? Correct!

So, I would assume that you would be interested in a little thing that I have discovered that has shot my click through rate from a paltry average 0.82% to a very healthy current average of 15.62% - and in some instances even way beyond that. Yeah? I thought so.

Oh, damn it! Let me brag for a moment, some of my articles are averaging 28% to 35%. Do you have that? Want to know the secret to it? Yeah, I thought so.

Before I even start let me say one thing that should be as obvious to you as the nose on your face - write about something that people are INTERESTED in. Why would you write about the catalytic converter on the Gumball Space Machine? Huh? NOBODY except some geek will be even remotely interested in that. If you got even 10 views I would be AMAZED. And if you got even a single click-through I would be DOUBLE AMAZED. In fact, I'd be shocked!

Obviously the most popular subjects are those that are sexually oriented (surprise, surprise). But not everybody is interested in writing about having a giant horse penis or shaving all their pubic hair off or having a blazing affair with a 48DD hooker or Johnny Donger. Excuse my attempt at humor. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Pick a subject that has good interest and that you have some expertise in. Also, write about something that your website promotes. Now, having said that, I don't have a website about "Article Marketing" but I do have a website about making money and, after all, we write articles to get clicks to our websites to sell products and I do have an excellent e-book on... Anyway, on with the show...

It's all there for you in the statistics. Pretty much it will be staring you right in the face if you care to take a look.

You should try to get at least 30 articles up before you can start analyzing your statistics. The more articles the better. When you have over 100 articles the results will become more glaring. Personally, I have over 250 articles and they have been syndicated all over the web in all sorts of languages. So, I have a good spread to look at. Here is what I did...

First, go to any article site that collects statistics. A good one is (ahem) Ezine Articles.

Look at your top performing articles and compare them to your worst performing articles. You'll find them easy enough. Look at the subject of the articles, the headline, the teaser summary, the keywords, the number of views, the click through rate and the resource box. What is the difference between your best articles and your worst? I'll tell you one of my stats.

My worst article - 1304 views for ZERO clicks - yep - a big FAT nought.
One of the best - 2667 views for 400 clicks - wow! - a 15% click-through rate!

Now what does that tell you? I'll tell you what it tells me...

The headlines and keywords were both pretty good. The teaser (or summary) was also pretty good. I know all that because, in both instances, I got pretty good viewing rates and I continue to get more views. So what else? One article enticed 400 people to want to know more while the other enticed nobody. The loser article was just a tell all, feel good piece of writing. Also, the resource boxes were drastically different between the two.

So, you see, by examining these statistics you can learn a lot about what will encourage people to click through to your site for more information. If you ignore it you will stay in the click-through doldrums.

Examine your statistics. Look at headlines, the teaser summary, the keywords, the article body (copy) and the construction of your resource box for the greatest number of click throughs. Replicate what works and chuck out anything that just hangs around like a stale bottle of beer. You will be amazed, like I am, at what you can refine when you know EXACTLY what is working for you and what isn't. My click-throughs have risen dramatically from 0.82% to 15.62% and some are much higher.

You can do this too. It just takes a bit of analysis to see what causes the statistics that you receive.

First a web directory is web site that specializes in finding, categorizing and listing links to other resources on the World Wide Web.
