Strategic Internet Marketing - How I Started From Scratch With A Simple Business Plan!

What is strategic Internet marketing? It's a way to grow your online business with a long term plan. You need to have a clear vision from the beginning. Where do you want to be after five years? Do you want to take care of your business or do you want it to take care about you?

I think the second option is that you want. Instead of working in your business, you need to take care of the general vision. I learned from Brad Fallon that it is one the only three things a business owner should do.

Let's take my own example. The first part of my strategic Internet marketing plan was to start with free resources and tools because I was on a budget. I couldn't pay for advertising, and even paying $8 a month for web hosting was difficult for me two years ago. I decided to start my online business career with affiliate marketing.

That was the first part of my plan. I carefully selected affiliate products proven to convert visitors into sales and I quickly started to make money.

I started with article marketing and forums because these are two low cost ways to generate targeted traffic to your website.

I then decided to start with safelists and traffic exchanges sites. After two months, I realized that the return in terms of subscribers and sales wasn't worth my time. I continued to submit articles because I was making sales and capturing leads into my autoresponder.

From this time, my goal was to develop my very own products. That's why I was building my list of loyal subscribers. I knew that when I am ready to launch my own product, I would be able to get sales right away with a list.

I forgot to say that I started with a blogger blog because it was free. I started with a free domain at tripod.com and bravenet.com. I also had a free autoresponder web based software with sendfree.com and get response.

When I started to earn $300 per month consistently, I immediatly got all the paid tools to go further in my business. I got a web hosting, I registered my domain and immediatly switched to wordpress blogs.

I was setting up the foundations for my online business.

Another element of my success is the fact that I got a coach because every successful mind has a mentor.

Article Marketing - How Does An Article Generate Serious Profits?

Raking in serious profits from one article alone is about one of two things - the article gets tons of publicity in a highly trafficked site, or it gets high search engine rankings because it is optimized very well.

When you optimize an article well for a keyword that gets tons of searches and it enters the top few rankings, you can easily get 20,000 plus views for an article. I personally have not done it, but others have. They found a real keyword that is a real goldmine (not too much competition but tons of searches) and really spent a lot of time optimizing that article and even linking to it so its get some backlink juice. And that shoots it up the search engines.

When you do that, yes an article (even a free one written by yourself) can reach 3 figures certainly. 4 figures is possible. With 20,000 plus page views for an article (and there are a few like that on some article directories) you can hit 4 figures with the right offer and an article that you have written yourself and you know is absolutely top quality.

So if you want to focus on one article and really get serious results from it, spend a few hours writing it, optimizing it for your chosen keyword and then linking to it once it's 'live' on the article directory. That will give you the best chance of shooting up the search engine rankings and funneling in the traffic from the search engine.

7 Basic Rules for Internet Marketing

Internet marketing strategies involve driving targeted (people who are interested in what you have to offer) traffic to your website, blog, or sales page.

That traffic then has to be converted into sales. This simple formula illustrates this process:

Traffic + Conversions = Sales

Keeping this formula in your mind will help you in your internet marketing efforts because you will realize that you not only have to generate traffic, but also turn those visitors into buyers.

Furthermore, here are 7 basic rules to follow when applying this formula. These rules are relevant to all forms of marketing but are especially important for online marketing where inexperienced people can "burn" a lot of money quickly and become very discouraged.

1. All marketing involves RISK.

Whether you are trying something new or "copying" a strategy that has brought good results for others, there is still an element of risk.

When speaking of risk, you tend to think of gambling which makes for an appropriate analogy here.

For internet marketing, we try to reduce the risk and swing the odds in our favour by doing keyword research, learning skills like ad writing, article marketing, and pay per click, and other general marketing activities such as knowing what your target market is interested in.

2. Test small first.

Reduce your risk by testing a marketing approach on a small scale first. If it works, then increase the scale and create momentum.

3. Be consistent.

Successful marketers do something to propel themselves forward everyday. That is their secret.

A good practice is to create a to-do list every night featuring 5 actions that you must complete the following day.

By doing this at night before you go to sleep, you engage your subconscious mind and the next day you will know what you have to do and be on target to complete these tasks.

This is a very powerful process. Try to do this, one day at a time, until it becomes a daily habit.

4. Set a budget.

Determine what you can afford to spend on advertising on a monthly basis. In this way you can set and manage your expectations.

This should also prevent you from trying things you cannot afford.

5. Diversify.

Spread your efforts as much as you can over many different sources. This will also reduce your risk and help you to discover what works.

Remember that if one internet marketing method that you try does not produce results, you have not failed. This just means that you are one step closer to finding something that DOES work.

6. Learn how to write effective copy.

The skill that will make or break you in internet marketing is copywriting.

It is especially important to learn how to write headlines. There is a ton of good information online that is free regarding headlines and copywriting. Just do a Google search.

7. Take action, test, and track.

Tracking is essential because you absolutely need to know the results of your marketing efforts.

Once you start getting results, you can employ simple tests to see if you can improve. Often this testing involves strategies that are free.

One such strategy that comes to mind is split testing. You can do this for free, and it can provide incredible returns. Generally speaking, split testing involves making slight changes to a landing page or adwords ad, often just the wording of the headline, and testing it against a current version.

I have seen very simple changes DOUBLE the productivity of an ad. It's not only amazing, but also a lot of fun!

Marketing takes work. You simply cannot get something for nothing. Massive action creates massive results.

So take action and do not be afraid to fail. Remember to minimize your risk.
